Sugar Beach a Viceroy Resort

Resort Description

The Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is without question located in one of the most spectacular sites in the world, the majestic valley of the Pitons (Val des Pitons). The beauty of the Pitons, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is unparalleled. The atmosphere is unobtrusive and lends to a truly intimate and relaxed experience. The resort is spread across more than one hundred acres of tropical forest unsurpassed for its natural beauty, with the only white sand beach in the area. Formerly a working sugar plantation, the property has a long history of owners including Lord Glenconner, famously known for his friendship with Princess Margaret and the once famous proprietor of the Bang Restaurant.

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is located on the south western part of St. Lucia about 3 miles outside the town of Soufriere, between the world famous Pitons. Soufriere is a historic town with the island’s main natural attractions; the drive-in volcano, botanical gardens and waterfalls in close proximity. It is a 45 minute drive from Hewannorra International Airport (UVF) and one hour and 20 minutes From George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU).

Agent Comments

Sugar Beach is the completely renovated ancestor of the Jalouise Plantaion.  It has an amazing unique location situated on a white sand beach between the Piton Mountains.  The resort is family friendly and there is a kids club to entertain.  The resort has unbelievable wedding venues (Sunset Deck) and Matt Damon renewed his vows there in 2013.  There is a total of 78 accommodations and 7 multi bedroom residences.  The three restaurants serve an eclectic mix of locally sourced ingredients and seafood.  There are surcharges on certain fine cuts of meat and this is posted on the menu in case you select a meal plan.

All of the accommodations are stark minimalistic white in décor with king bed and private plunge pool.  The Sugar Mill rooms (11 total) are situated close to the beach and are the lead in room category.  The villas are located up the hill with shuttle service to the beach and main pool area.  The most popular (and expensive) accommodations are the Beachfront Bungalows (8 total) with direct access to the beach.  All rooms have an Ipad for making dinner, spa, and cabana reservations or for arranging tours or special dinners.  Each villa is serviced by a butler who is accessible by phone or Firefly.  All rooms offer complimentary WIFI and room service incurs a $18 service fee per order.

The spa at Sugar Beach is fabulous and unique.  The 7 cabins are more like tree houses, each with private shower!  The cabins are blended into the natural rain forest and makes for a unique experience.  There is a 15 minute Rain forest trail surrounding the spa along with an air conditioned fitness center.  Yoga, Pilates, and Zumba classes are held each morning at Sunset Point.

Overall, I loved Sugar Beach.  Although it is family friendly, the majority of the guests are honeymooners.  The unique location and white sand beach separate it from other resorts in St Lucia.  The most common complaint is the confusion surrounding the multiple meal plan offerings.
