Hawaii – Maui

Destination Description

The mythic aura of this island begins high atop Mauna Haleakala, a towering, dormant volcano whose crater is big enough to hold Manhattan. Its slopes descend down to 33 miles of pristine beaches, then further into the waters off its shores, where endangered humpback whales find a safe home. Maui could be called the activity capital of the world, with more than one hundred optional activities to be experienced by land, sea or air. Relax on the beautiful sandy beaches or explore historic Lahaina, once Hawaii’s Royal capital and later a famous whaling town. Taking the Road to Hana and the Seven Pools is an unforgettable trip. The road itself is a twisting narrow ribbon that weaves in and out of sea cliffs, mountains, valleys and waterfalls, and through rainforests and jungles of ferns. It is a visually spectacular journey that should not be missed. Maui is a true haven for golfers. Practice your swing on a great variety of courses, each with unique characteristics and spectacular vistas.

Activities and attractions

Bike ride down Haleakala Volcano – This an a once in a lifetime experience.  A van takes you to the crater of Haleakala for the amazing view of the sunrise.  Being as though you are 10,000 feet above sea level, you can see the other Hawaiian islands on a clear day.  The bike ride is not strenuous and involves very little peddaling.  The views are amazing!

The Road to Hana – This is the best drive in Hawaii.  I recommend an idependent drive and cd’s are available for a guided tour.  The Road to Hana is 25 miles of curvy roads that lead from the airport to the quaint secluded town of Hana.  Along the way, experience magnificant waterfalls, black and res sand beaches and fantastic views.  A picnic lunch is recommended.

Whale Watching – The season for whale watching is December to March.  Enjoy a scenic cruise to watch magnificent whales which travel to Hawaii for the warm waters during birthing season.

Snorkel and SCUBA  – The most popular dives are around the crater island of Molokini (off the coast of Maui).  Enjoy the cruise to the dive site and follow it with an exhilerating dive or snorkel.  The water is clear, and it’s a great location to see large fish.

Luaus – The Old Lahaina Luau is acknowledged as the best in Hawaii.  Enjoy the traditional cuisine of Hawaii along with open bar and authentic cultural entertainment.  Please pre-reserve the luau prior to arrival since ot usually sells out months in advance.

Golf – Maui is a golfer’s paradise.  There are over 15 courses on Maui.  The most famous of which are the Palntation course (home to the PGA tour’s Mercedes Championship), world famous Kapalua, and Wailea Gold Course (home to the LPGA Skins game).
