Couples Negril is recognized for its stylish, chic, and eclectic atmosphere. Everything seems to be synchronized here… even our hammocks, shaded by lush palm tress, seem to sway harmoniously with the gentle sounds of the sea. The turquoise blue waters beckon as the powdery white sand offers an easy road to the Caribbean Sea. Oh, the choices you will have… golf, windsurfing, scuba diving, tennis, a massage?? You deserve it!
Couples Negril is situated on 18 acres facing the crescent shaped Bloody Bay on 1,000 feet of white sand beach, Couples is five miles from Negril- a small fishing village and fifty miles from Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (a one hour and thirty minute drive).

Couples Negril is a very nice resort in the capitol of casual, Negril! The beach is outstanding and the service is very friendly. The resort is located on a half mile stretch of white sand beach named “Bloody Bay”. The water is turquoise, very shallow and very calm. The resort has old Caribbean charm with a refined elegance. There are 234 rooms/suites located in nine 3 story buildings scattered among lush foliage and palm trees. The bars offer top shelf liquors and beers. At the pool and beach bar, they serve Red Stripe and Real Rock on draft as well as Miller Lite in cans. In the piano bar, they offer these three beers in bottles as well as Heineken in bottles. The lobby is wired for Wi-Fi, and they have 4 computers in the lobby building that offer free internet access. Couples Negril has an outstanding gym with 10 cardio machines, 15 Cybex strength machines and free-weights (dumbbells). There are 4 restaurants at the resort. The first is called Casanovas, which offers buffet breakfast and lunch. In the evening, they have themed buffets or a la carte dining (I ordered lobster tail on Friday night). The gourmet restaurant is called Isatoffie and reservations are required. They have an eclectic menu of steaks, seafood, and pastas presented with white glove service in an elegant setting. Dress shoes, pants (no jeans) and collared shirts are required. Reservations are required and can be arranged at guest services in the lobby. The third restaurant operates as a snack bar during the day (jerk chicken, hamburgers, nachos, pizza, etc.) and an a la carte Italian restaurant in the evening. They also added an Asian restaurant (October 2009). Couples also offers continental breakfast in bed daily.
The beach at Couples is outstanding! It’s long (nice for walking), calm and very clear. There is a clothing optional area, and some women were topless on the beach and in the pool area. They have a great pool area with a waterfall and swim-up pool bar. There are two Jacuzzis and plenty of floating mats. The resort offers pool and beach service for drinks, but it takes a while and most people just go to the bar themselves. The resort has a full activities program which is posted outside of the restaurants. There are no “playmakers” or “animation” staff trying to get you involved. There is Caribbean style music playing throughout the pool area. The pool area at Couples was better than any other resort I saw in Negril with the possible exception of Beaches Negril. Activities include pool volleyball, beach volleyball, mixology, reggae dance lessons, bingo, etc. In the evening, they have a stage show (which is actually very good) or a guest involvement game (like battle of the sexes or the Couples game). On Wednesday they have an evening movie by the pool area. Monday is beach party night (they have a beach buffet with live music and entertainment).
Couples offers plenty of free watersports and tours. Scuba, snorkeling, glass bottom boat trip, water skiing, sunfish, hobie cats, sea kayaks are all included. The scuba diving resort course is also free (unlike Sandals). They also include a free shopping tour, a trip to Pirate’s Cave (a cool Caribbean bar with live bands and cliff diving), and a 2 hour sunset catamaran cruise with open bar (sign up for these activities are at the sports desk on the beach). Honeymooners receive a 30 minute massage per person for free (documentation required). Golf is included (Unlike Sandals Negril), caddy is mandatory and tips are expected. Cart and club rentals are optional.
The only flaw with Couples Negril is the rooms. They are average. The rooms are eclectic and trendy, with king sized beds and balconies. The rooms have 30 channel satellite TV, an average bathroom, several candles, and marble floors. The resort has updated the rooms with plasma televisions and minibars. In summary, this resort is outstanding. There is a high staff to guest ratio, and the staff and service is outstanding. The little things make a huge difference. There was never a problem getting dinner reservations, a chair by the pool or beach, or a floating mat. The beach and resort is very romantic and secluded. The only negative is the rooms are just average and there are only 4 restaurants.
